Loping Pen Rules

It’s that time of year again when we need to gently remind everyone of the loping pen “ground rules”. Following these simple guidelines can save everyone a lot of aggravation as well as keep it safe.

  •  Stay to the inside if you want to go slow.
  •  Stay to the outside if you want to go fast.
  • Try not to bunch up and talk or stand still in traffic.
  • Be kind and let people in and out of traffic.
  • Never stop quickly in traffic.
  • Groom and apply boots out of the way of traffic.
  • Do not tie your horse to a panel or other loose object, find something secure.
  • Do not tie kicking or biting horses in the loping pen.
  •  Be aware of what your stallion is tied next to.
  •  Maintain one direction.
  • Always be in control of your horse.
  • Yield to tractors and pedestrians.
  • Keep your sense of humor!

Especially here at the SDCHA, where we cater to families and new members, we need to remember that we all get nervous or get in a hurry from time to time. Let’s try to be patient with each other and most of all have a good time. For more information see the NCHA Rule Book
